Main lines of research
The team is co-ordinately acting to exploit microbial and non-microbial platforms for the production of new generation protein-based drugs and materials, of interest in protein replacement therapies, gene therapy and regenerative medicine. In particular, we are interested in developing novel self-assembling, nanostructured materials in form of protein based drug delivery systems and of viral mimetics for
the cell-targeted delivery of conventional drugs and nucleic acids. Associated activities are based in the improvement of biofabrication processes in different cell factories and in the use of non-protein nanomaterials such as magnetic particles.
